May 2013 – We Love Mom Issue – Summer Camp

Read the May Issue of PB Parenting Online

Greetings,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and moms-to-be! We hope your day is spent being pampered and taken care of.  In honor of moms, we have dedicated our May issue to you! We have over $700 in giveaways just for Moms, see page 6  and enter on our facebook page. Sometimes it isn’t a gift that’s special, but rather the gift of time. On page 14,  we have tips for creating moments for yourself. We all get busy and sometimes just need to take the time to relax.

Speaking of busy, check out our Busi-Moms feature on  page 8!  Being a mom is already a full time job, and many women add juggling a business too. We talked to local business moms who did just that and started an ice rink, indoor playground, art and dance studio, theatre and photography business from the ground up. Maybe it will inspire you to be a Busi-Mom as well.

Over a year and a half ago, I was also inspired and launched PB Parenting. After many years of working in advertising and publication, I decided to launch my own magazine. When my family moved to Palm Beach County three years ago, I noticed a need for local parenting information.  I am always researching and looking for new things to  do or places to take the kids and I am happy that I can now share all that information with our readers.  We are run entirely by moms. PB Parenting wouldn’t be the publication it is today without the help of my staff especially my Advertising Director, Jennifer Preville, also a mom of two,  with a background in magazine advertising. She equally shares my passion for publications and family.  Together, we are juggling 2 kids each all under 5 years old, magazine deadlines, school drop off, sick days and more. But we have  a great time and balance each other out . With my creative side, Jennifer’s business side and the help of our new Account Executives Abbie and Courtney (also moms), we make an excellent team!

Happy Mother’s Day!

April 2013 Issue – Green Eco Issue – Summer Camp Directory

pbp_apr_13The April Issue of PB Parenting is now online.

Greetings,
April showers bring May flowers. In celebration of Earth Day this month, plant some May flowers, teach them about recycling, conserving water, or any of the many tips PB Parenting has compiled on page 8. We are passionate about mother earth and preserving it for our future generations. Sharing our passion is Temple Beth-El of Boca Raton, read up on their LEED Certified green campus on page 10. Perhaps they can inspire you to make a few small changes in your own home. Switching to energy efficient light bulbs, changing the air filter in your air conditioner,  or installing aerators on your faucets and shower heads to use less water can add up in the long run.

School will be out soon and summer will be here! Keep the kids busy all summer long! PB Parenting has your summer camp needs covered with our directory on page 14. There is a camp that will fit your child’s interests from art,  cooking, science theatre, dance, gymnastics, sports and more.

We are growing! PB Parenting is pleased to welcome to our staff, Account Executives Abbie Hellman and Courtney Portnof. Congratulations are also in order to Jennifer Preville who was recently promoted to Advertising Director.

February 2013 Party Planning Issue

pbp_febRead the February 2013 Issue of PB Parenting

Greetings,
Welcome to our 2nd annual Party Planning issue.  It is one of our favorite issues! Who doesn’t love a birthday party? Cake, presents and fun!
At your celebration, what people don’t see is the “behind the scenes action” going on and all the planning that goes into your child’s big day. Picking the right place, the guests list, invitations, food, decorations and favor bags. Sometimes,  this can get very stressful and you could use a helping hand.  A special Happy Birthday wish to my daughter, Abby, she is 4 tomorrow and the inspiration behind our party planning guide. Last year at this time I was researching places to plan her party and thought a directory would be so helpful!
PB Parenting hopes to make your planning process easier with our go-to party guide! We have put together a great list of party planning resources in Palm Beach County. Everything is right here at your fingertips.
We also know that you may not necessarily be ready to plan your child’s birthday this month, so we put our guide up on our website  to access year-round. When you are ready to plan your child’s party, our helpful resource will be there waiting. Go to www.pbparenting.com/directories/party-planning-guide

January 2013 Issue – Health and Fitness

PBP_Jan_13_PRINT

Greetings,
Happy 2013! New Year’s Resolutions are back! January is a time for reflection on the past year and a desire to change in the new year. According to StatisticBrain.com* the #1 resolution is to lose weight and #5 is staying fit and healthy. Yet only 8% will find success and 49% will fail. PB Parenting would like to change those numbers in your favor. Check out page 6, Get Fit Moms. Read and find inspirational success stories from local moms just like yourself.

I have found the key to keeping a plan in place is to have a good support system. Join our Facebook group – Get Fit Moms. Share your story, find a workout buddy, and swap recipes and diet tips.

Recently, I decided to change my fitness path. Seven months after having my second child, I started running again and eating better. I am happy to report that in 3 months I have lost 15 lbs. I also finished a half marathon in December. I plan to run another half marathon in February and hopefully a full marathon in December.

I hope we have inspired you to join us in our mission for a “Healthy and Happy 2013”.

December 2012 Issue – Holiday Gift Guide

Greetings,
This year has gone by fast! Time does not stand still when you have two small children. This is our 12th issue of PB Parenting. Each month, I find more and more great things to do and places to go in Palm Beach County, and I am so glad that I can pass the information on to our readers. One of my favorite things about where we live is that there is always something going on. Sometimes I find myself having a hard time picking which event to go to! I look forward to the new year and continuing our mission to be your local parenting resource. I would love your feedback – please e-mail me what you would love to see in our upcoming issues. PB Parenting is your magazine too!

I have always wanted to be one of those holiday shoppers that is done shopping in August but that never happens and probably never will. Perhaps it is because I try to put a lot of thought into my gifts and try to get something unique. PB Parenting has put together a Holiday Gift Guide with some great unique gift-giving suggestions to help you finish your shopping early and stress-free. You can support businesses here in Palm Beach County by checking out our guide. Supporting local businesses help keep your dollars local and boost our local economy.

November Issue – Holiday Gift Guide, Local Events and More!

Greetings,
The holidays are coming right up. First Thanksgiving, then Hanukkah followed by Christmas then top it all off with New Year’s. While the holidays can be fun times especially for the kids, they can also be stressful shopping for the perfect unique gift. When I go shopping, I love to find things that are unique as well as support local business owners. Supporting local businesses help keep your dollars local and boost our local economy. PB Parenting has put together our Holiday Gift Guide with some great gift-giving suggestions to help you finish your shopping early and stress-free.

Being a mom of two, I know sometimes I get so busy that I need to step back and take a breath and be thankful for all that is around me. We should inspire our children to be grateful as well. Check out page 12 for tips from national parenting expert, Dr. Michele Borba on how to instill these values into our childrens’ lives (as well as our own).

The holidays also make me think about giving back to the community. In our area, there are so many great non-profits that make a difference. Check out our first “Community Cares” spotlight, Speak Up For Kids of Palm Beach County, Inc. (page 18). You could make a difference and become a voice for a child who needs it.

PB Parenting wishes you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

October’s Issue – Halloween Happenings, Kid-Friendly Dining Out Guide

Greetings,
Fall is here! Well the calendar says it is, the weather man says it is still hot. October is one of my favorite months. I love all things pumpkin – coffees, muffins, pie. The month also hosts one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. It was always a favorite of mine growing up and now with two children, I love it more. All month long, there are fun Halloween Happenings in Palm Beach – see page 14 of our October. Check out pbparenting.com for the latest updated Halloween events.

We know it is sometimes hard to go out to eat with kids, so this month we have put together our Dining Guide starting on page 8. We have included healthy eating tips for parents on the go and information about kid-friendly restaurants. What is your favorite place to eat? Check out our facebook page and answer our poll by October 30th. A winner will be drawn at random and will win a $25 gift certificate to the restaurant with the most votes.

Thank you to all our readers who stopped by and said hello to us at the South Florida Science Museum’s Stroller Daze and Just Between Friends Consignment Sale. We enjoyed meeting everyone – congratulations to our raffle prize winners. We can’t wait to see everyone at the next event!

September Baby & Maternity Issue

Greetings,

Wow, time has flown by quickly since our last baby/maternity issue. In March, I was expecting my little guy pictured here. Now it is almost 6 months later! We have pretty much adjusted to being a family of four with a toddler and an infant. It sure keeps us on our toes.
The hardest part of the past 6 months is the lack of sleep. My first time around, I slept when the baby slept. This time I am up all night and day! My three year old is very active so there is no napping! So at best I am getting snippets of sleep. But I know this is only temporary and hope to be off to dreamland soon!
I really love spending time with my son and daughter. My favorite part is seeing them interact together. I call her little momma, she loves to take care of him and he smiles at her and you can already see a sibling bond that is going to last a lifetime. Enjoy our baby/maternity issue, hope you pick up some good tips and information for your young ones and young ones to-be!
