Sandy Hook mother, Alissa Parker, to be featured as Keynote at The Children’s Healing Institute’s 15th annual Turn on the Light National Conference in October
More than 400 parents, professionals, and child advocates will come together on October 23, 2018, to participate in 15th Annual Turn on the Light National Conference on the Wellbeing of Children and Families at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The conference Keynote, Alissa Parker, is the co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools and mother of Emilie Parker, one of the 20 children who died tragically in the Sandy Hook school shootings on December 14, 2012. Alissa’s experience and perspective will provide unique insight and inspiration as well as practical information and education that attendees can use in their roles raising, teaching, healing, or protecting children.
Dr. Sandy Munoz, CEO of The Children’s Healing Institute shared, “In the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, we were compelled to take action and support meaningful conversation around the school violence and trauma that is permeating the neighborhoods, schools, and families in our own backyard and across the country. With support from the United Way of Palm Beach County, the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, and other donors we are able to bring Alissa here to facilitate this important dialogue and further inform and educate parents and professionals.”
In addition to the Keynote luncheon, this premier, full day educational conference will offer attendees a variety of workshops for parents and professionals, an exhibitor and resource area, networking opportunities, and continuing education credits for select disciplines. Workshop topics include raising empathetic children, responding to sexual abuse, suicide prevention, bullying, and ending the cycle of domestic violence.
