Socially Distant Summer Fun in PBC
Summer has been extended! We are getting three extra weeks before public school starts here in Palm Beach County! What are some fun things to do while maintaining CDC recommendations for social distancing? PB Parenting has some great recommendations on what to do these final weeks of Summer!
Make a Splash!
Shark Wake Park is a great way to have fun, stay cool and all 6 feet apart! Shark Wake Park’s Obstacle Island is one of the largest inflatable, floating playgrounds on the East Coast, featuring climbing towers, monkey bars, slippery slides and more! And if you’re looking for some action-packed, hair-raising adventures on the water, give their cable park a try where you can learn to kneeboard, wakeboard, water ski and more. Park’s staff wear mask and there are hand sanitizing stations. For the maximum safety of guests and staff, Shark Wake does not accept cash payments on-site. Credit cards are gladly accepted. In our shady location, you’ll find all the snacks, cold beverages, ice cream and Pumphouse cold brew coffee on tap you’ve worked up an appetite for. They even have adult beverages! Relax and enjoy a 360° views of the park, you’ll enjoy a great show while watching friends, family and pros ride.
Roar like a Tiger!
Another great outside activity is the Palm Beach Zoo! Let your kids get that pent up energy out by checking out the zoo. Right now the Zoo has a great offer for the month of August, Kids are FREE! With a purchase of a full-price adult admission you will receive two free child (age 13 and under) admissions. May not be combined with any other offer, coupon or special. Valid Aug. 1 – 31, 2020. The zoo capacity is limited and carefully monitored to ensure physical distancing. They have created a one-way path that is designated throughout the Zoo to allow room for social distancing. Hand-sanitizer stations are available throughout the Zoo as well. Guests are encouraged to wear face coverings, utilize hand-sanitizing stations, and maintain a six-foot distance from other groups. In accordance with Palm Beach County orders: Facial coverings are required in indoor spaces and where social distancing is not possible. Stay cool and play in the splash pad. The fountain splash pad is open and guests are requested to physically distance a minimum of six feet apart while using the Fountain. The following attractions and services will be unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols: Carousel & Train,
Reptile Observatory, Asian Aviary & Butterfly Garden, Bronze Statues, Nature Play, Keeper Talks and Animal Experiences, Stroller and Wheelchair Rental, The indoor dining room is closed. However, outside concessions and food kiosks are open throughout the Zoo. Outdoor seating is available on the café deck and picnic tables. Schoolhouse Fun!
Just because school is out doesn’t mean that learning is taking the summer off! Head over to the Schoolhouse Museum and Learning Center for some socially distancing fun! The Schoolhouse is now open to members on Mondays, and to both members and non-members Tuesdays through Saturdays. They will be operating at a limited capacity and reduced hours, using Timed Online Ticketing Entries. Visitors to the Schoolhouse Museum are asked to schedule their 3-hour play session by reserving the day and time of their visit online. All visitors will be required to use hand sanitizer prior to entry and will be required to wear face masks, as per county mandate. Children under 2 years of age are not required to wear masks. All (adult) visitors should maintain proper social distancing (6 feet) from others. Schoolhouse staff will sanitize the Museum and loose parts between each timed entry period.
Sensational Storytime will resume at the Museum starting Tuesday August 4 at 10:30 AM. It will be limited to 10 children with one adult per a child/sibling group. Everyone will remain at their tables the entire time (no circle or carpet time). Each child will receive their own baggie of sanitized materials to use. Storytime is free with paid admission. Socially Distant Sharks
Head over to Sandoway Discovery Center and watch them feed the Sharks at 10:30 AM Tuesday-Saturday. Purchase your tickets online and enjoy their outdoor Animal Encounters & Shark Feeding. They are operating at 25% capacity. All visitors are required to wear masks while inside the center. For more information check out www.sandoway.org.
Turtle Time
Get ready to visit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s hospital and check out their beloved sea turtle patients and take a rare look into the world of marine life rescue at their working sea turtle hospital. The Sea Turtle Hospital at LMC is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a limited guest count, additional sanitizing, social distancing signage and extra hand sanitizer station.
